Background
Oxfam seeks to recruit dynamic men and women to support our work to hold global multi- lateral institutions and African States accountable to the claims of people living in poverty , suffering and injustice in countries we work in. Established in 2009, the Liaison Office with the AU is part of the Pan Africa Programme, a continental public policy advocacy programme with staff based in Nairobi, Addis Ababa and Dakar.
The role
You will act as the policy and advocacy Pan Africa focal point for Oxfam International on the African Union organs. Write/commission with input from advocacy staff and approval from the Head of Office policy-briefing papers for external use focusing on Peace and Security and Governance. Provide advice and support in developing advocacy strategies. Undertake lobbying and advocacy on behalf of Oxfam, maintaining a network of contacts and allies in Africa amongst Think Tanks, Governments, CSOs and the African Union. Undertake lobbying of African Governments and institutions as required. Support coalitions, Oxfam partners and alliances on advocacy and campaigns targeting the African Union Undertake generic advocacy training and mentoring for staff, partners and alliances in Africa. Support and mentor policy and advocacy staff and senior managers in lobbying activities
Competencies
The Person
· At least a master's degree in a relevant field.
· Demonstrated experience of public policy advocacy
· Proven record of media, advocacy and communication experience in Africa.
· Sound understanding of poverty, human security and human rights within Africa, and the work of non-governmental organisations and other players in the sector.
· Demonstrated understanding of the possibilities and tactics for influencing multi-lateral institutions and African Governments
· Excellent conceptual and analytical skills and demonstrable ability to think strategically, innovatively and practically to improve programme quality.
· Excellent communication and facilitation skills including speaking and writing fluently in English and French. Capacity to write appropriately for different external audiences.
· Well developed interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible and sensitive in demanding situations. Passion for working with others. Diplomacy, tact and negotiation skills, coupled with a drive to achieve results.
