Assistant Finance Officer
Duty Station: Nairobi (with frequent travels to project areas)

To discharge support duties of financial and administrative nature that will ensure smooth running of activities and overall improvement of the organization’s processes and services rendered
Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with strengthening
sound financial and reporting systems for the organization to ensure
efficient financial management of grant finances and improvement in
accounting skills for the organization.
- Assist with preparing
training materials and manuals for reference by team members.
- Do proper book-keeping,
accountancy and reporting requirements for all program and projects and
the use of computerized accounting systems.
- Assist in conducting
financial reviews for the organization in the course of program
implementation.
- Work with the partner staff
to aid them to submit timely reports in line with donor regulations and
liquidate their advances on time.
- Review of documents and
transactions at the organizations and ascertain compliance, accuracy,
relevance and reasonableness of each transaction.
- Assist in the review of the
quarterly budgets comparison reports and forward them to the project
officers and partners.
Required
qualifications and competencies:
- University Graduate in
business or commerce, certified as CPA (K) or ACCA.
- Masters of business administration
(MBA) degree will be an added advantage.
- Minimum two year experience
in NGO financial management/administration, especially in diverse donor
funded programs and projects
- Excellent skills in MS
Office (excel and word) and experienced in computer based accounting
software (QuickBooks and Sage).
- Documented knowledge of
banking, auditing, financial and internal control Page 2 of 2
methodologies.
- Solid analytical skills with
proven ability to work independently and complete assignments.
- Good interpersonal and team
playing skills with strengths in discretion and maintaining confidential
information.
- Able to manage a diverse
workload with competing priorities.
- Fluency in spoken and
written English.
- Excellent written and verbal
communication skills.
- Experience in procurement
procedures and financial capacity building/leadership is an advantage.
Desired Qualities
- Have a personal commitment
to work as a reliable, honest and trustworthy team member and be able to
handle all sensitive (accounting or otherwise) information with the
confidentiality required.
- Ability to work effectively
in a highly collaborative team approach.
- Good time management skills
and be able to deliver with minimal supervision.
